Placentia-Whitbourne RCMP arrested a 48-year-old man on Saturday afternoon after responding to a report of a suspected impaired driver.

On June 27, shortly after 4:00 p.m., police in Placentia received a call from concerned resident about a possible impaired driver parked outside a local business. Officers located the described vehicle and observed signs of impairment, as well as an open alcohol container.

The driver — a 48-year-old man — failed a roadside screening and was transported to the detachment where he provided additional samples that were more than three times to legal limit.

He was charged with impaired operation over 80 mg% and released from custody to appear in court at a future date. The man’s driver’s licence was suspended, and his vehicle was seized by police and impounded.

RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador offers its thanks to the person who reported their concerns to police. By stepping up and calling police, you may have saved a life.

Impaired operation is an unnecessary choice that puts everyone on our roads, trails and waterways at risk of serious, life-altering injury or death. If you suspect anyone of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, please call 911 immediately.
